Hello
My name is Taeah (Tay-ah) Kim.
I am a biomedical communications professional specializing in translating complex scientific information into clear, engaging content.

I completed my Master's of Science in Biomedical Communications from the University of Toronto, where I conducted research on the use of visual analogies in educating diverse audiences.

1 / Research analysis
-
I conducted scientific literature review on media coverage and public perception of brain health and neurodevelopment in children, developing a Master’s research project proposal aiming to address misconceptions and stigma surrounding the neurodevelopment of preterm babies affected by adverse socioeconomic factors.
2 / Content development
-
From analyzing the research in preterm neurodevelopment and the existing public perception of brain health and families in lower socioeconomic backgrounds, I developed a person-first, plain language script for a medical animation intended to teach the lay audience about the research topic.
3 / Visual analogies and metaphors
-
I developed a detailed storyboard, using visual analogies to describe complex, and often abstract scientific concepts – such as describing DNA like a recipe book, and epigenetics as sticky notes that change the instructions without changing the underlying recipe.
-
For the final outcome I produced a scientific animation explaining how neurodevelopment and epigenetic changes are related to socioeconomic factors.
